We are looking for a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our team.
The purpose of the Senior Environmental Engineer role is to provide multi discipline test engineering ( Climatic and Dynamic ) within a busy and dynamic UKAS accredited environmental test laboratory ensuring that test delivery & excellence is achieved in an effective and efficient manner in line with budget whilst providing the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
The facility caters for the needs of in-house development and production programmes plus external commercial customers.
To perform and support all types of Climatic and Dynamic environmental tests and conduct Environmental Testing programmes for Leonardo and external companies.
To create test reports, calibration reports and locally controlled documentation.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal and external test customers.
Assist with technically effective and cost effective test proposals and solutions to product development, production and external customers.
Perform specialised equipment calibration.
Identify and undertake process improvement tasks.

Key Responsibility Areas
Provide cost effective testing of products to national and international standards.
Accurately and impartially observe, record and report on test activities.
Create accurate and impartial test records, with reports authored in a timely manner to departmental quality standards.
Conduct specialist equipment calibrations and prepare and manage equipment calibration records as required.
Work across multiple projects, supporting on time completion within budget.
Liaise with internal and external customers to provide technical guidance on test specifications, standards and results.
Ensure that the requirements of ISO 17025 are met and ensure compliance with H&S, internal audits, UKAS accreditation and similar.
Ensure all Environmental Tests are carried out to the required National and International standards and to the auditable requirements of UKAS to ISO 17025.
To ensure that test work performed meets and exceeds the requirements of UKAS Accreditation.
Identify, propose and support improvement opportunities and initiatives within the lab.
Develop and share best practice across lab disciplines.
Share knowledge and best practice across the EED group.
Ensure that the capabilities of current test facilities are clearly understood.
Progress reports and metrics on project activities.
Provide support to projects and customers as required with technical advice and guidance.
To provide single or multi discipline technical mentoring to junior engineers.
Support proposals, bid preparation and quotations for internal and external customers.
Manage and prioritise personal work load on a week to week basis.
Support test flow management and test deliverables.
Ensure all work done meets safety and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a safe working environment during all work activities.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
High level of understanding of and extensive practical experience in Dynamic and Climatic test processes and technologies used in Leonardo or similar laboratories.
An in depth knowledge of the quality requirements detailed in relative international standards documents (such as ISO 17025).
Experience with product certification and testing concepts, principles and processes.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Extremely well organised with ability to plan personal workload and work within the bounds of both short and long term plans.
Good people skills to work with engineers and customers at various levels of the organisation including test customers from outwith the business.
Individual should have experience or appetite for promoting continual improvement.
Understanding and knowledge of both military and commercial environmental test standards documents such as MIL STD 810, RTCA DO 160 and BS EN 60068.
